Today in class we watched part of an episode of the bachelor to see the gender representations in it.
- At The part the girls are at the nineteen twenties flapper themed party the girls are dressed in two colours: Black and white.
- All the girls who are most likely to be asked on dates with the Bachelor and are most likely to have intimate moments with him are wearing white while all the jealous women who are trying to spy on the girls getting time with the Bachelor are wearing black.
- I seriously do not think this was an accident.
- The girls are often filmed when they are having "bitchy moments". They are often filmed talking bad about the women getting intimate conversational time with the Bachelor, spying on him and that girl, or even following him.
- In these scenes the women are represented as nasty vindictive, manipulative, easily jealous and it seems they do not want any good for anyone but themselves.
- The girls are all fairly intelligent. You see their job descriptions and they are all quite good jobs but in this show they are reduced to fighting over a boy and all they seem to care about is a way to get the Bachelors attention.
- This makes them seem needy, clingy, and unintelligent.
- There is a scene where they have to vote for who they want to have a date with the Bachelor and all of them vote strategically making them look very nasty and vindictive.
The bachelor overall is a very bad representation of women.
Sam, the actual Bachelor comes off as very uncomfortable. He has favourite girls but has to date all of them, it is an unnatural environment to have a date and he seems very awkward around the girls. This is not a good representation of men either as this is not the way men typically behave on dates, it is just the unfortunate circumstances of this show.
