Notes on Beauty and the Beast

Mens representations
Gaston
Gaston is really up himself “The lucky girl Im going to marry”
He is buff, manly, good at hunting (Gaston)
Gaston is stupid
Gaston assumes belle will marry him (He is over confidant and way to into himself)
Gaston is seen as extremely pushy and condescending “my little wife”
Gaston is a “lad”

The Beast
Its kinda creepy that the beast is an animal
  • He is angry and has a quick temper
  • He is considerate and kind to Belle and the servants 
  • He is insecure


Womens representations
Belle
She is beautiful slender with a tiny waist and big eyes
“She’s the most beautiful girl in town and that makes her the best”
Belle takes action and goes to look for her father
Belle wants to explore the world
Belle is curious and not afraid to break the rules of be unconventional
She is very brave exploring the west wing even though it is frightening
she does not want to be a conventional little wife
Belle is quite capable and manages to fight off some of the wolves
She does need the beast to save her in the end though
She fights back with the beast and stands up for herself
She teaches the beast stuff like how to read
Belle wants to save her father

The blond big breasted girls in the town think belle is crazy

Belle is interested in books and thinks there is more to life than where she is (she actually has some personality
Gaston is really up himself “The lucky girl Im going to marry” its good to show the good looking guy being the “bad guy” for once
  • Belle believes in her father. It is uncommon as many princesses would most likely be afraid of someone like him.
Belle is not easy to win over she doesn’t care about Gaston
