Cinderella things that I like and dislike the most

Cinderella is a different story to beauty and the Beast with completely different messages. This is most likely because this film is much older. The messages in this film are not nearly as positive as Beauty and the beast and they seem to be predominately along the lines of beauty is where your worth lies, makeovers fix everything and ugly=bad person.

The main thing that I dislike in Cinderella is the concept of the ball, which is unfortunately one of the main scenes in Cinderella. Firstly the only reason the king wants the prince to marry is because he wants grand children. Basically the only thing the 'wife' will be is a baby making object in order to provide him with grand children. As well as this the whole ball is kind of like a giant episode of the bachelor. Its not even a ball really as there is just the prince and hundreds of other girls. And literally the prince stands up the front and each girls name is announced they go up and curtsey to him then walk away and he is meant to decide which one he is meant to marry from this. When he finally sees and starts to dance with Cinderella all the other girls just watch. They must feel like crap that they were not beautiful enough to be selected by the prince. The message that this sends is beauty defines your worth.  Sure its all good and fun to be beautiful but seriously the messages in this film take it to a new level, he decides he loves Cinderella because she is beautiful. Another negative message this film gives is beautiful=lovely (Cinderella and the Prince) and kind ugly=mean and evil (The step mother and step sisters)

One think that I like in this film is that Cinderella is a little less of a push over than some other princesses. She tries to hurt Lucifer (the cat) a few times, she attempts to speak over her step mother, shouts at her when she locks her away, hands her step sisters back their laundry when they try to make her wash it, she's also kinds of sassy and huffy towards her step sisters and mother which is rightfully done.

When she realises she can't go to the ball

“Of course there will be other times-"
“Yes"

When she hears her sisters singing terribly:

“maybe I should interrupt the umm 'music lesson’”
