Flipping the stereotype: The psychotic male killer

I'm ashamed to say that I have watched part of the movie Prom night, a horror movie where the heroine is stalked by a psychotic male killer who murders her family and displays all of the following characteristics:

Stereotypical male killer character in horror movies:

  • Usually male character or strong masculine build.
  • Plays on the fears of the audience.
  • Usually well equipped psycho, sometimes demon possessed (though not in this case.
  • Often possesses extreme intellect or strength or supernatural abilities.
  • Psychological problems.
  • Often taunts victims.
He is what I like to call there stereotypical, psychotic male killer. Unfortunately this movie did not fare so well in reviews on Rotten Tomatoes receiving predominately 1 out of five stars, but that doesn't mean I can't gather inspiration to gender swap my character in my teaser trailer. I think if I take all the characteristics of the 'psychotic male killer' and gender swap it making the psychotic male a psychotic female, it would be quite effective for my trailer. I think the idea would be to show different aspects of the person and their items, and all these items will appear very masculine, but only at the end, will I reveal that the killer is a female.

This was the guy from the movie prom night. The stereotypical 'psychotic male killer'
