Brainstorming

Today we had to think more about our assignment and character. I'm thinking of changing my stereotype idea. My new idea is to take the stereotype of the obsessive strong male killer and gender swap it.

Here was my research from last lesson:

Characters:
  • Female victim (Blond female character, often annoying naive)
  • Non believer, (person convinced that everything is fine and nothing strange is going on)
  • The hero (often a male character who is selfless strong and tries to save other characters)
  • Hysterical character (often witnesses a murder, breaks down into hysterics and refuses to move)
  • Evil character (killer, murderor, supernatural creature who kills people)
  • The wise elder (They know every secret and back story)
  • The crowed favourite (a character that is made to appeal to audiences and is often killed)
  • The resourceful heroine (The smart female who can survive and fight)
  • The chatterbox/know it all (Character who wont shut up and doesn't listen to warnings, a bit of a know it all)
  • The jerk (A guy who wasn't the killer but was a pretty bad person, usually the audience does not feel bad for this person when they are killed.
  • The smart guy (The guy who just wants to figure out whats going on but getting deep into the situation causes him to be killed)
  • Authority figures (who think that the people involved in the horror situation are making stuff up)

Mise en scene:
  • lighting
  • props and costume
  • setting and location
  • acting style

Stereotypical male killer character in horror movies:

  • Usually male character or strong masculine build
  • Plays on the fears of the audience
  • usually well equipped psycho, sometimes demon possessed
  • often possesses extreme intellect or strength or supernatural abilities
  • psychological problems
  • often taunts victims
