Editing more of the predator section (Shots and why)

Straight on angle

Bright crips lighting to represent it is day time and a normal school day

Mid shot: To show that Abby has just opened her locker and looked at her phone

Edit: We edited a conversation where someone on a Facebook chat is asking for personal details over the top of Abby getting her phone out of her locker (e.g just being a normal teenager at school). This represents that any average teenager could come into contact with talking to a predator.  This relates to this section of film as we are speaking, in the voiceover, about online predators chatting to youth of today which could put them at risk of sexual assault and murder and therefore great trauma.

Close up to show that Abby is taking selfies

Edit: We edited a conversation where someone on a Facebook chat is asking for pictures over the top of Abby taking selfies, (indicating that she would send pictures of herself to this online person.). This relates to this section of film as we are speaking, in the voiceover, about online predators chatting to youth of today which could put them at risk of sexual assault and murder and therefore great trauma.

Close up: To show the selfies being taken on the phone.

Slightly low angle as if this is being taken from Abby's perspective.

Mid shot to show both the phone and school in the background to show that Abby is an average school girl and this sort of thing and conversation can happen to anyone.

High angle shot: To represent that Abby is in a vulnerable position

Close up: To show her body language in more detail

Bright lighting: to represent it is day time and she has gone to the beach (which is a common place f calm) to get away and think

High angle to film this animation

Bright lighting to give it a professional sort of feel

close up to show what is going onion detail

I made a stop motion about statistics of sexual assault and the trauma that comes from it to back up our points in the documentary about trauma and its relation to assault.

Close up of laptop so it is not implied who is typing it could be a predator.

straight in angle: to show the typing on the keyboard clearly.

Editing: We edited a screen video of someone unseen wanting to meet up over someone typing at a keyboard to reinforce the message that it could be anyone you are talking to online they could have good intentions but you never really know if you don't know them personally.

Close up: To show an image of a teen using her phone and show the use of her phone in detail

Low angle: To show her using her phone, in detail

Editing: We used this shot of Tanay as she looks like an average very day teen in this shot just on her phone. We used this shot to show that sexual assault or any of the consequences from dangerous online chatting could happen to anyone. As the voice over is speaking bout what risks youth of Australia faces if they are online chatting the risks pop up on the screen as a reinforcement.

Straight on angle

Bright lighting: to represent it is day time and she has gone to the beach (which is a common place f calm) to get away and think

Edits: We edited in the words "Immense trauma" and "PTSD" over the top of Abby looking extremely unhappy as in this section the voice over is talking about the effects of sexual assault and we felt these shots related to that..

We used a combination of shots to add interest and reinforce the overwhelmingness of social media. We then edited our questions for the general public over the top so they could answer them in the next few shots.

Editing the Nona Belomesoff story (Shots/edits and why)

We first cut a this part of the clip in to represent that a murder has taken place.

We cut an image of Nona in to show who had been murdered

We then cut an image of Christopher Danevig in to show who her murderer was.

(Our own edit)

We used a shot from the clip of Nona's photographs to give this section of our documentary more of a personal feel.

(From the actual clip not our filming)

Mid shot to show Data on computer screen

Straight on (As this is a computer screen)

No lighting (This is a computer screen)

We cut this section in, when it is being explained that Danevig started Stalking Nona on Facebook. This represents that stalking.

(Our footage)

We edited this clip in of Nona as the voice over is explaining that Davevig found out Nona was an animal lover. This image definitely relates to that notion.

(A photo we edited in here)

We cut this image in as it adds a more human side to this whole experience. This is Nonas mother. It pulls on audiences sympathy as she is clearly devastated.

(Not our footage)

No lighting (This is a computer screen)

We edited a screen recording that we took of someone typing the name Jason green into their Facebook bar. We then overlaid it with a clip from the segment on the Nona case, of Danevig in a police car, hiding his face from the cameras.

We did this as this is the section where it is being explained that Nona had started receiving messages from a stranger called Jason Green. We edited this shot like this because we wanted to Make it look like Nona was searching up the name Jason green, but show the nature of the monster behind him, by overlaying a clip of Danevig in a police car cowardly hiding his face.

(Both our footage and not our footage)

Mid shot to show Data on computer screen

Straight on (As this is a computer screen)

No lighting (This is a computer screen)

We took a screen recording of a conversation occurring over messages. It is the imagined conversation that Nona and Danevigv may have had about her working at wires. In this section the audio describes how Nona was extremely excited for a chance tow work with wildlife at wires which is why we edited this conversation into this section.

(our footage)

Mid shot to show Data on computer screen

Straight on (As this is a computer screen)

No lighting (This is a computer screen)

The explanation of how James Dannevig tricked Nona into thinking she worked for Wires is continued which is why we kept the overlay of the conversation on the screen, but underneath is the shot of Christopher Danevig talking to interviewers. We edited it like this to represent that this man was behind this whole scam

(Our footage and not our footage)

We edited this section of the clips footage in here as it explains a lot about Christopher Dannevigs character and more on the situation on how he lured Nona to the bushland. It also shows him in a negative light which is what we are trying to do in this documentary.

(Not our footage)

In this shot we overlaid Jason green logging into his Facebook profile with many images of Nona as we are told that he stalked her on Facebook.

High angle: To show that someone is texting on a phone

Mid shot: To not get too much detail about what is being texted but only the fact that texting is happening

lighting: Dark to represent that something creepy is happening.

In this shot we overlaid more of the imagined conversation between Nona and Christopher and a shot of someone texting in the dark. In this section it is being explained to the audience how Christopher preyed on Nona through tricking her over Facebook. These shots are just meant to support that.

(Our footage)

This was a clip from the documentary of the police searching for Nonas body. We put this in her to represent the tragedy and waste that occurred as a result of Danevigs actions.

(Not our footage)

We put this shot in here from the clip to show the consequences of Danevigs actions and the fact he is being jailed for years for this crime. We edited minimum 21 years over the top of this.

(Not our footage)

lighting: Dark to represent that something creepy is happening.

This is to represent that talking online to people you don't know in real life can often be very dangerous

(our clip)

(Not our footage)

We edited these shots of Nona's family in to really show the impact of dangerous online chatting with a stranger you don't know, and to really humanise the event and show it can happen to anyone.

(Not our footage)

We found an interview!

Today Abby and I were looking up some videos on the Nona Belemesoff murder and we found one! Its a really great interview with her actual Killer going into detail about how there was communication over Facebook and how he managed to get her alone in Sydney Bushlands. We are also completely allowed to use it as long as we cite it. How we were thinking of editing it, was cutting parts of it with parts of our footage, so it is unique and not just their interview but also somewhat ours.

First draft for voice over for predator part

Another reason Facebook has a momentous impact on teenagers is because of the prominent danger of online predators and pedophiles. The rise in chatting online with strangers or friends of friends has resulted in great amounts of trauma post traumatic stress or even death as a result of sexual assault and murder that comes as a result of dangerous online chatting.

Plan for the next couple of days

So we have our final days for filming before our entire project is due on Monday

So what we have left to do:

Thursday: Abby Comes to my house (3pm)
We interview my dad who got scammed over Facebook
My neighbour ("Do you know all your friend son Facebook")
My sister ("What do you think about people not knowing all their friends on Facebook")

Friday:
Abby and Bella Arrive at school to record voiceovers on the professional sounding microphone
I drive to Jenna's house ("Do you know all your friends on Facebook?")
I Then drive Abby home
Tanay arrives at my house at 2 pm with Claudia (We interview Claudia "Do you know all your friends on Facebook?"
Francesca and Michelle arrive 2:30 and we ask them the question "Do you know all your friends on Facebook?"
Tanay stays and edits her footage and combines it with what Abby and I edited.

Saturday:
I meet up with Jacob to interview him "Do you know all your friends on Facebook?"
I edit it into Tanay's section

Voice over

Today Mr Andrews helped me improve my voice over for the hacking section of the documentary by changing a few words to make it seem less colloquial and much more formal

Facebook has had a momentous impact on the mental health of young teenagers in Australia. Facebook hacking and the destruction of individuals digital reputations are becoming prominent issues  among youth. This has lead to an increase in a range of psychological issues, ranging from depression to anxiety and even suicide.

1 in 16 teens will experience depression,

with suicide being the biggest killer of young Australians.

10.5 per 100 000 died of suicide in 2012.

Since social media became more common place these statistics have continued to rise at a dramatic level.

Then go into something about hacking
  • more recently these problems have been exacerbated due to the large increase in instances of Facebook hacking
  • This can occur due to a number of factors due to teens not understanding the importance of privacy and the number of resources made available to enable a successful Facebook hack.

Feedback from Mr Andrews

I showed what I edited on the weekend he said we could improve on some of the things in the voice over and to bring it to work on tomorrow. He also suggested the overlay of Abby sitting on the rocks and all the hacking was a bit over done and to fade it in and out to make it look "less busy"
