Why are certain music videos banned?

M.I.A Born Free
- This was banned because it was basically a music video about the genocide of red headed people.
- Its pretty graphic, there is a shooting, a red headed person being blown up and two guars beating someone to death
- Its been a highly controversial music video
- there is lots of "shocking" imagery packed into the video
- Like two older overweight adults having sex, an old man smoking crack etc...

Why is she trying to be so controversial
- M.I.A was inspired to make this video to send some sort of message
- She had recently seen extra judicial killing of Tamil Males from the Sri Lanken army often filmed on simple things like mobile phones.
- She wanted to depict something real made fake to kind of give some perspective of horrors that happen in the real world
- She wanted to make a statement on what people pretend isn't actually happening in the real world
- She also grew up in Sri Lanka and saw plenty of genocide
- Its also a comment on the absurdity of genocide

How much control does she have over this
- M.I.A has a lot of control over this as she didn't it without informing her record label
- the music video was written by M.I.A

Who directed the video
- French director Romain Gavras
- he has directed other sorts of controversial music videos
- Gavras claimed after the release "How can you be shocked by the M.I.A. video and not shocked when Israel bombs Gazafor days and days...Really crazy stuff where people actually die, real things."

When did this become so controversial
- It was only on youtube for a day before it was taken down so it was claimed as almost too controversial almost straight away.

Who took it down
- Youtube took it down

- It was claimed to be controversial because of the violent scenes in it
- It "Hit too close to home"
