Today in class

Today I had a pretty productive lesson because I borrowed my friends computer microphone to record voiceovers. The quality is amazing! There is no white noise behind it so it looks really great. But The way we went about recording was a little more complicated. What I did was I opened up garage band and had my film on iMovie open two. Then Michelle, who was speaking, would plug in her headphones and listen to herself speak on the film while speaking into the microphone at the same time. It worked really effectively.

On Friday

So on Friday we had our first filming day. I had both Minnie and Michelle over to my house to start filming our trailers. Its hard to film 3 different assignments for three different people because we have to distribute our time evenly and give everyone a chance to get stuff done. It involves so many different costume changes and set ups and props and lights. We started with Minnie's and she needed a few little shots of my sisters and Michelle. But then Minnie had to leave. I needed both Michelle and Minnie for my film so I just filmed all the shots of Michelle I needed and now I just need to get the shots with Minnie. I also filmed a few show with Michelle for her film. It involved me lying in bed sleeping and her watching over me wearing a hospital gown, I have no idea what hers is about but it was kind of creepy. Anyway our rough draft is due Friday which means we submit as much, or as little, as we have done. I have planned with Michelle and Minnie to go over to minis house on Thursday afternoon to do some more filming. We should be able to get it done I think. The only thing I have left to film are the shots of minnie, talking to Michelle and the shots of Minnie and Nicole in the car before hand. Also the voice overs of Michelle. I'll post on here what I have filmed so far but it is very rough and there is no voice over, only royalty free music which sounds cool and creepy which I got from Youtube.

Character profiles

Jinx:

Jinx is a highly determined 17 year old girl. She is motivated by the love she has for her friends and families and her worst fear is losing them. She doesn't like to be told ‘no’ or as she see’s it as a challenge to change those words to ‘yes’. If she cannot solve a problem, she will get extremely frustrated and embarrassed. She is fairly average height, with pale skin, grey eyes and brown hair. She is extroverted, outspoken, opinionated, determined and a friend to everyone, although some would consider her a little too opinionated, even rude. Jinx takes school seriously, and has been going to a private school her whole life. She wants to get at least an OP 5 and get into a good university, but lacks some direction, not knowing what she wants to do in life. She decides to see a psychic to get a reading, to see if she can gain some guidance from this experience. Although she doesn't really believe in supernatural abilities, but her best friend suggests that it would be a good idea for her. The psychic tells Jinx that she has a very special gift for resurrecting the dead. Jinx does not believe this, as she has little tolerance for the supernatural, and leaves the psychics room quickly. Soon after this reading Jinx is in a horrible car accident in which her best friend is killed. Jinx is heavily shaken by this and extremely upset by the fact that she cannot bring her back. But because of Jinx’s determined personality she doesn't except that her friend is dead and decides to return to the psychic, abandoning her prejudices against the supernatural, to seek advice. Jinx manages to master her power and bring her friend back to life. Jinx’s short term goals in,life include trying to forget the trauma of the incident and thing care of her friend while she recovers from the broken bones sustained in the accident. Her long term goals include trying to figure out a way she can use her power to change the world in a positive way. 

Psychic/Mist:

Mist is a twenty year old psychic with a rare gift to send someone back in time in order to fix their mistakes. Misty grew up as an only child to her two parents in QLD and always knew from the time she was young that she could see into the future, as well as know about a person without actually knowing the person. She was a quiet girl at school and extremely introverted. She has few friends but was always kind and loving. She dropped out of school at 14 seeing it as useless, as she longed to pursue a career as a psychic. Her parents knowing her ability, fully supported her but wished she had finished her education. She is fairly tall, has tan skin, curly dark hair her most distinguishing feature, and often wears brightly coloured flowy robe like clothes. She spends most of her time at readings with people who need them, or visiting her few close friends who are also psychic. Mist is completely overruled by emotion and can often let her heart get in the way of her head. She sends people with very sad stories, or lives back in time to correct their errors, but fears that they will disrupt the course of nature. The course of nature has been disrupted before but she has fixed it by sending the person further back in time and forward again to repair his mistake. It is her greatest fear that something like that will happen again. Mist is completely determined to help Jinx save her friend and trains her to succeed in doing so. Mist is gentle, generous, kind, sensitive and mysterious and has no enemies. Everything she does is done with a calm demeanour and her hobbies include crystal gazing and mastering the art of tarot reading and palmistry. Her great ambition in life is to help as many people as she possibly can with her psychic abilities and her ability to turn back the clock, but her short term goal is to make sure Jinx brings her best friend back. 

The treatment

The title of my trailer is Jinxing Resurrection. It is a trailer that depicts the unwillingness to believe in special ability and the desperation to bring a loved one back. A Psychic places a crystal ball and tarot cards on a table. A car door is slammed. Psychic pours some tea in a cup. Jinx walks into the psychics room. The psychic tells Jinx she has a ability to resurrect. Jinx exits the Psychics room quickly.Jinx and her friend in the car laughing. Jinx crashes the car. A black screen is seen while crashing and screaming noises are heard

Jinx opens her eyes. Jinx realises that her friend is dead. Jinx pull’s on a black cardigan and smooths her hair. The scene cuts to Jinx placing some flowers on her best friends grave. 

Jinx enters the psychics room. The psychic tells Jinx she is sorry for her loss. Jinx her she doesn't have the power to resurrect people. The psychic tells Jinx that she can help her bring her friend backs but she will need training and practise. She pulls out wilting flowers and places them on the table. She tells Jinx she needs to she needs to restore the wilting flowers. Back at home Jinx googles ‘people who can resurrect’. The scene cuts back to the psychics tent. Jinx is picking up flowers that she has just restored. The psychic tells Jinx that when she goes back she will need to believe in herself. Jinx asks the psychic “What do you mean go back?”. The Psychic informs Jinx that she has the ability to send someone back in time. Jinx says: “I’m ready now.” The psychic tells Jinx she isn’t prepared. The scene cuts to Jinx in her bed tossing and turning while a voice over of the psychic says: “You need to put you self back into that situation.” “Your back there on that day.” The scene cuts to Jinx (in her imagination/dream) sitting behind the wheel. The scene cuts back to the psychics room she tells Jinx that she is ready.

There is a black screen and car crash and screaming noises that are heard. Jinx opens her eyes. Jinx wraps her hands around her friends arm and closes her eyes. The whole trailer up to this point replays in very fast motion. Jinx opens her eyes and lets go of her friends arm. Jinx’s friend opens her eyes, white fade out is seen.

Working on production templates

Well today I realised that my media treatment is 1400 words and it is meant to be, at most 440 words. hahah........ So I had to seriously shorten my treatment. I have actually managed to cut down the word limit to fit the limits. I realised I had put way to much detail into it. I also completely my production schedule so now we have a time frame. I have talked to my two other group members: Minnie and Michelle and they are coming over on Friday to start filming which is great! Then Minnie, Michelle and Nicole are coming over again on Sunday. The rough edit is due on Monday so we should have enough time to get it done and edited.

Teaser trailers

Teaser trailers can often give just enough information away leaving the audience feeling gripped, epic and like they really want to see the film. Recently I went to the movies and saw unfriended, I have to say it was way scarier than the teaser trailer made it out to be. For one thing, I watched the teaser trailer a heck load of times, it always came up over ads on youtube videos. I think they were trying to make the film appear not as scary as it really is to attract a wider audience and fool them into thinking oh its just a computer movie how bad can it be. I can tell you I was pretty scared. There was also quite a bit of gore in it, some was left in, like the guy blending his hand then his face, but there was all sorts of stuff that got left out. Maybe they were sonly trying to show some of the gore in order to intrigue the viewers. Thee is certainly a lot of screaming and fear in the trailer but honestly it doenst look very scary and it looks a little stupid, the movie is a little stupid but it is still way scarier than the trailer makes it out to be.

The hero's journey in common culture and popular culture.

The héros journey is used a lot in many of the stores we have grown up with, and I have only really realised this since Ive been studying this unit in FTV.

Media treatment done

Today in Media I continued to work on my media treatment, It tells the whole story of my film in a sort if story like way and it should explain the new story.

The title of my trailer is Jinxing Resurrection it is a trailer that depicts the unwillingness to believe in special ability and  the unbearable sadness one can feel when a best friend is gone and the extent they will go to to bring them back. There are three central characters in my trailer: Jinx, Annabelle and ‘The Psychic’. 

Jinx is an outspoken, impatient, but extremely loving 16 year old girl. The believes herself to be painfully ordinary and is happy to be that way. She is pale, brunette, slim, pretty with grey eyes and a unique fashion sense. Her life is simple and pleasant and she wants to know what the future has in store for her. One day she goes to see a psychic who informs her that she has a gift for resurrection. She tells her that she will soon need her gift. Jinx refuses to believe her and takes back her money from the reading. The psychic is a young woman who has an extraordinary gift for turning back the time, in certain desperate situations. She is pretty, asian, has tanned skin and curly brownish hair. She often dresses in shauls and colourful clothes and is passionate about crystal gazing and tarot reading. She is convinced on Jinx’s prediction. Jinx’s world is turned upside down on the way home from the psychic when she is in a horrible car accident, her best friend Annabelle in the car next to her. Annabelle is the best friend of jinx who is fun and loving. She is pretty with tanned skin and long brown hair, and quite a fragile frame. 

JInx’s life is siple and uncomplex but this simple wold is changed after visiting a psychic who tells Jinx she has a special gift for resurrection. She informs Jinx that her gift will be needed soon. Later Jinx;s world is rocked by a horrible car accident in which her best friend is killed. Jinx is tortured by the fact she could not save her friend and returns to the psychic for advice. The psychic offers to give Jinx the opportunity to bring her friend back to life but tell sheer to not question anything that the psychic does. Jinx is trained by the psychic on how to use her powers till she is strong enough to revive her friend. The [sychic then reveals that she has the ability to send people back in time in extreme cases and send Jinx back to the crash giving her the opportunity to save her friend. 

Scene 1:

A Psychic places a crystal ball and tarot cards on a table in the middle of her reading room. A car door is slammed in an empty street. In the psychics room she pours some tea in a cup and sets it down on the table. Jinx exits her car and walks into the psychics room. She looks up at Jinx and tells her she had been expecting her. Jinx is nervous to begin the reading but sits down. The psychic proceeds to tell Jinx that she has a very special ability to resurrect the untimely and tragically departed. Jinx denies this power and is startled by what she is saying. She feels that the psychic is a phoney and takes her money back. Jinx exits the Psychics room quickly. 

Scene 2:

After returning to the car Jinx and her friend are laughing at the bad radio stations they find in the car and are trying to choose a good one. While play fighting Jinx, unaware, crashes the car. A black screen is seen while crashing and screaming noises are heard.

Scene 3:

Jinx opens her eyes slowly after the crash and looks around the car. She turns to her best friend who is still next to her. Jinx realises that her friend is dead and starts to shake her arm, trying to wake her up. Jinx is stressed out trying to figure out what to do. She thinks back to what the psychic said and wonders what to do. She realises she can’t bring her friend back. Jinx is back in her room after the accident pulling on a black cardigan and smoothing her hair. The scene cuts to Jinx attending her best friends funeral. She places some flowers on her best friends grave. 

Scene 4: 

Jinx enters the psychics room angrily asking her what she knows about her. Returning to the psychic is a last resort for Jinx as she has no idea what to do with herself now that her friend is dead. The psychic sits calmly at her table surrounded by crystal balls and tarot cards. She tells Jinx she is sorry for her loss. Jinx is furious and tells her she was wrong about her, she doesn't have the power to resurrect people. The psychic stands up and seriously tells Jinx that she can help her bring her friend back but Jinx can not question her methods. While she says this she fiddles nervously with her crystal ball and cards. Jinx is very excited by this news but asks how it will be possible, already questioning her methods. The psychic ignores this fact and vaguely tells jinx that she will need training and practise in her skill. While telling Jinx this she pulls out a jar of wilted flowers and places them on the table. The psychic proceeds to walk over to Jinx and take both her hands. She tells Jinx she needs to feel her own energy run through her. She tells her she will need to restore the wilting flowers she has placed on the table as practise. Back at home Jinx sits at her desk and googles people who can resurrect. The scene cuts back to the psychics tent. Jinx is picking up some fresh flowers that she has just restored. The Psychic is placing a vase of water on the table and arranging the fresh flowers in it. She tells Jinx that when she goes back she will need to believe in herself. Jinx drops the flowers she is holding and asks the psychic “What do you mean go back?”. The psychic is examining a fresh flower very closely, she informs Jinx that she has the ability to send someone back in time in dire situations, when they really need it. Jinx realising that the psychic is going to send her back to the accident sends her power into a crystal ball, that fills with light while she says: “I’m ready now, send me back to the crash.” The psychic angrily pulls the fresh flowers out of the vase while telling Jinx she is neither physically or emotionally prepared to be in that situation again. Jinx paces the other side of the table desperately and asks what she must do to be ready. The psychic calmly informs her that she really needs to ‘feel’ that day of the crash again. The scene cuts to Jinx in her bed tossing and turning while a voice over of the psychic says: “You need to put you self back into that situation.” “Your back there on that day.” The scene cuts to Jinx (in her imagination/dream) sitting behind the wheel, the camera fades to white while a voice over of the psychic is heard over the top saying: “Your behind the wheel and you feel everything.” The scene cuts back to the psychics room she tells Jinx that she is ready and to be prepared as she will send her back to the exact moment of the crash. 

Scene 5: 

There is a black screen and car crash and screaming noises that are heard. Jinx is sitting in the front seat of the car and opens her eyes very slowly. Jinx looks to her left where her best friend is sitting, in the passenger seat, dead. Jinx wraps her hands around her friends arm and closes her eyes. The whole trailer up to this point replays in very fast motion, representing that Jinx is feeling her energy and the energy of the past weeks where Jinx has been training with the one goal in mind, to bring back her friend. Jinx opens her eyes and lets go of her friends arm. Jinx’s friend suddenly takes a huge gasping breath of air and opens her eyes, white fade out is seen. 

The updated hero's journey

Ordinary world	Jinx is at a fairground with her best friend and decides to go and get a psychic reading.
Meeting with the mentor/goddess	The psychic Jinx goes to see tells her she has a very special gift for ‘bringing the too early and tragically departed back from the dead’
Call to adventure	Psychic tells Jinx that she will need her power very soon.
Refusal of the call	Jinx calls the psychic crazy and does not believe she has this power, she leaves the tent angrily.
Apotheosis	Jinx and her best friend get into their car and are in a car accident in which Jinx’s best friend is killed.
The road of trials	Jinx unaware of what to do to bring her friend back to life dais to do this. She attends her friends funeral. Jinx is devastated.
Crossing the threshold	Jinx, distraught and unaware of what to do returns to the psychic to try to understand what she meant, in an act of desperation, to bring her friend back.
Initiation	The psychic tells Jinx she knew she would return and starts her training for her to bring her friend back. She tells Jinx to not question her and to trust that everything she says will lead to her friend coming back. She starts Jinx off by trying to get her to feel her energy, the energy that will eventually allow her to resurrect herd friend.
The belly of the whale	Jinx practises resurrection on dying plants and flowers restoring them to their healthy selves, she then practises on completely dead plants restoring them to health. This happens over a series of weeks.
Supernatural aide	Jinx is frustrated with the psychic telling her nothing that she has learned will allow her to be able to go back in time and be able to save her friend, the psychic informs Jinx that she is not the only one who has a gift. The psychic can turn back time for very special cases such as this one.
Approach to the innermost cave	Jinx tells the psychic she is ready to go back in time and bring back her friend. She is scared though, to relive the accident.
Atonement with the father	Jinx returns in time right as the accident happens, she is afraid that the same thing will happen and she will not be able to bring back her friend but she allows herself to feel the energy inside her that brings back her friend.
The ultimate boon	Jinx is able to resurrect her friend.
The road back	Jinx and her friend are safe, and relieved that they are both aright.
Master of two worlds	Secretly Jinx knows that she has mastered her ability.
Freedom to live	Jinx returns to the psychic who congratulates her but tells her to use her power only when completely necessary.
