So as Ive been putting together the scenes Ive been considering what music and sound to use. Hitchcock, I know, is notorious for a great soundtrack but also harnesses the use of silence and sounds in his films just as much. I wanted to use the sound track of the original psycho film as that film is what mine is most inspired by. I decided every time there is chaos in a scene I wanted to use the music entitled "Patrol car" as it really coveys a chaotic atmosphere. Some of the scenes I used this in were: The scene where Adriana is mobbed by fans, the scene where Adriana see's a dark shadow in her dressing room and is also stressed about going out and seeing her fans and the death scene. I originally wanted to use the shower scene music in my death scene but Mr Andrews questioned whether it was the right move which made me question whether it was the right move. I think the patrol car music fits much better. The only exception to "Patrol car" not being used in a moment of chaos is when Marina rushes out to Adriana and tells her to call the police. This is to convey Marinas intentions, this "Chaos" is not real chaos, Marina is completely in control and knows exactly what she's doing. Instead I used a soundtrack entitled "Bathroom" which is eerie and sinister, just like Marinas character.
The first half of the psychiatrist scene between Marina and Adriana is silent in terms of music as it is very important to convey or Marina is feeing in this scene. This scene gives away her true colours but only if you concentrate hard enough. When the fan starts knocking on the door I used it as a symbolism for Marina ad Adriana's emotions, the knocking and noise gets louder and louder as the two characters begin to feel their emotions more strongly. For Adriana that emotion is overwhelmed and stress while for Marina it is jealousy and resentment.
For the exchange between Adriana and the policewoman at her signing, I didn't use any sound to create tension between them and foreshadow that Adriana's situation will not end well.
For the final scene I used an ominous track called "The toys" which starts growing louder when the policewoman pulls the piece of paper from Adriana's psychologist interview out of her pocket. This represents that Adriana is really in trouble. It continues through to the final scene where Marina pulls the Adriana mask, photo of her Adriana and friends and her knife out of her bag and smiles down at it, while a flashback of the murder takes place. This really enforces what an ominous and creepy character Marina is.
I also had to record voiceovers to make the whole thing sound more professional. Recording voiceovers wasn't hard but i found that the voiceovers don't sound as genuine as the acting, strictly because my actors are concentrating more on trying to get their words in time with the video rather than the genuine acting. Because I did voiceovers, I turned the audio right down in my film and had to use a variety of different sound effects to compensate. Some of these sound effects were running footsteps, a car door opening a closing, tearing paper, a metal chair sliding on the floor and of course a knife stab.
