CHARACTERS:

CHARLIE An easily-persuaded rookie cop, tomboy, introverted, later leaves her job as a cop to continue working as an illegal money-maker at SpinStraw Inc.

ANNA Manager of an illegal money-making business, sly, manipulative, power-seeking, loves money

VERONICA KING Founder and Owner of the illegal money-making business, Stubborn, Angry, Powerful

CARL Criminal suspect, Worker in illegal money- making business,shady, 

EMPLOYEE 1 Worker in illegal money-making business, eager,forceful, 

EMPLOYEE 2 Worker in illegal money-making business, always messes up, accident-prone, always gets yelled at

PLOT OUTLINE

Charlie, a rookie police officer, is keen on investigating a shady business that produces fake money. In a case of intentional mistaken identity Charlie finds herself working for the company and blackmailed in a downward spiral.

SCRIPT

1: EXT. Tedder Avenue Street. NIGHT.

Darkness. CHARLIE drives in her 1950’s Sprite car, stops, and writes in her notepad about her first mission following the potential criminal suspect,  CARL.

CHARLIE (V/O)

0240 hours. Wednesday morning,  July 16th, 1958. Potential criminal suspect has made their way to Grim Lane, goes by the name of Carl.

Charlie exits the car to find Carl, and finds him talking to HITMAN 1 handing him a profile. Charlie hides in the darkness, watching.

CARL

Max Patterson. 30 years old. Some say that he almost found our spot, so we’re suspicious. Just kill him.

Carl leaves and Charlie discreetly follows him.

2. INT. Boarders/Old Library (SCHOOL). DAY.

Around 6 people work and print fake money. Carl enters and Charlie follows. Charlie looks around. EMPLOYEE 1 finds Charlie, mistaking her for another worker and throws her pair of plastic gloves.

EMPLOYEE 1

Hurry up, you’re late. (judgmentally) Nice disguise, but its your first day in business. Learn to be more prompt.”

VERONICA KING enters unhappy, her large heels click loudly. Workers stiffen at the sound of her presence. Employee 1 takes Charlie to a desk and sits her down.

EMPLOYEE 1

Keep Still. Don’t Talk.

Charlie is confused and scared as to where she is and what she has gotten herself into. Veronica examines a bill. 

VERONICA

(holding up 2 $100 notes to EMPLOYEE 2)

Real Australian Bill. Fake Australian Bill. Can you see the difference? (building up) No? You’re an idiot. 

ANNA enters, realises the tense atmosphere.

ANNA

Veronica! 

She walks over to Veronica.

ANNA (CONT’D)

We got a new shipment of paper and it is 100% fool proof. Would you come over and help me bring them in please.

Anna looks over at Employee 2 who is thankful of getting out of the situation. As Anna walks back to her office, she walks past Charlie, noticing she is not doing anything. Anna slams her hand on Charlie’s desk, startling her.

ANNA

Hey! (smirks) Get back to work.

3. EXT/INT. CHARLIE’S HOUSE/LIBBY’S HOUSE. NIGHT.

Charlie is in her car, writing in note pad.

CHARLIE (V/O) 

July 23rd, 1958. Situation and procedure hasn’t gone to plan. Criminal suspect has been identified as working for a money forging business.

Charlie puts away note pad in car and makes her way to enter her house. Her front door is half open. Cautiously, with her hand on her gun, she enters and finds Anna playing pool.

ANNA

Took you long enough

Anna breaks pool balls. Charlie, confused as to how she knows where she lives, grabs a pool stick and joins her.

ANNA

I want you to do something for me. You are good at what you do… Let’s see how good you really are…

 She walks over to Charlie 

ANNA (CONT’D)

I’ve been in this business long enough, I live for control over it. You are going to find out everything you can about Veronica.

Anna throws Charlie’s cop badge across the pool table

ANNA

So, tell me Officer; what do you say? You know Veronica wouldn’t like the fact that you have… authoritative connections?”

Charlie knows she can’t get out of the situation. She pours 2 drinks and they continue playing pool.

4. (Beginning of montage)

During this montage Charlie writes in a notepad and voice over plays.

INT. BOARDERS/OLD LIBRARY/SPINSTRAW INC. DAY.

Employees are working and printing money. Charlie and Anna exchange glances. Anna walks past Charlie and discreetly places a note on Charlie’s desk that indicate a meeting place.

EXT. TEDDER AVENUE/GRIM LANE. NIGHT.

At the meeting place. Charlie walks past Anna as if not to know each other and discreetly passes her a file that has Veronica’s name and photo on it.

INT. BOARDERS/OLD LIBRARY/SPINSTRAW INC. DAY.

Anna sits at her desk. She puts a persons details into an envelope. She goes to HITMAN 1 and hands him the envelope

ANNA

I will deliver the ring it will make him an easier target to identify. I suspect Jonah Patterson knows too much about our business

INT. LIBBY’S LIVING ROOM. NIGHT.

Charlie contemplating her job as a cop. Looking at stack of money compared to cop badge and notepad. She puts her head in her hands.

INT. BOARDERS/OLD LIBRARY/SPINSTRAW INC. DAY.

Veronica quietly spies on Charlie and Anna talking on the stairs.

Veronica looks behind her at Charlie’s desk and finds a note left by Anna.

EXT. TEDDER AVENUE/GRIM LANE. NIGHT.

JONAH PATTERSON wears a ring and walks through an alleyway. Hitman 1 holds a gun, hiding from Jonah. He aims his gun at Jonah shoots him. Anna appears and she pulls the ring off Jonah’s finger.

INT. LIBBY’S LIVING ROOM. NIGHT.

Charlie rips up note pad.

(end of montage)

5. INT. BOARDERS/OLD LIBRARY/SPINSTRAW INC. DAY.

Anna suspiciously picks up a coordinate that was written by Veronica. She walks over to Charlie

ANNA

This isn’t your hand writing. (whispers) Someone’s trying to mess with us. Just be cautious.

Anna begins to walk away. Charlie stops her.

CHARLIE 

Hey, when you’re in charge… when we’re in charge… I’m going to get a triple raise, right? (smiling)

Anna says nothing and walks away. Charlie finds a ring on her desk, she curiously hides it in her pocket.

6. EXT. GRIM LANE/TEDDER AVENUE. NIGHT.

Anna is in her car and looks at her gun sitting in the front seat beside her. She gets out of her car and walks to Veronica who is standing in the alleyway.

Veronica sees Anna and slams her to the wall stealing her gun and pointing it to Anna’s head.

VERONICA

What.. is going on?

ANNA

I’ve always been loyal to you, Veronica. Can you just trust me on this one?

Veronica calms down and gives back Anna’s gun. They retreat back from each other.

Charlie’s car pulls up and she gets out to join them. Charlie enters the meeting coordinate and Anna immediately points the gun at her. 

CHARLIE

Anna. It’s just me.

ANNA

I know it’s you, Charlie.

Charlie puts hands up in surrender, confused.

CHARLIE

What are you doing?

ANNA

(smiling) So, Officer… show us what’s in your pocket.

Charlie slowly pulls out the ring from her pocket. Anticipating what will happen next, she takes a deep breathe. 

ANNA

(sweetly sarcastic) You know what the ring means, right, Charlie? It’s the death ring.

Anna shoots Charlie. Charlie drops to the ground. Anna turns to Veronica and points the gun to her.

VERONICA

(confused) What are you doing?

ANNA

God, it feels good to be powerful.

Anna shoots Veronica and she falls to the ground. Anna goes to Charlie and collects the ring. She steps over them to go to a telephone box. She dials a number.

ANNA

“Grim Lane, get the bodies out. Now.”

7. INT. BOARDERS/SPINSTRAW INC. DAY.

Anna walks into work with a smile.
