Muzzle flashes

This is hard to do. So apparently there is a muzzle flash when someone fires a gun in a film, and in our film noir a gun is fired two times so I had to look up how to create a muzzle flash. I recommend this tutorial: http://www.premiumbeat.com/blog/final-cut-pro-x-video-tutorial-muzzle-flashes/

Im not quite there yet and the muzzle flash looks really odd still. But these are the steps Ive taken so far to try to make it look kinda realistic.

What I did

I clicked the little icon on the side next to the T (text sign) and selected elements as you can see

I then selected shapes 

And then dragged it over to the part I wanted to make it look like Minnie shot Nicole 

I then changed the outline colour to white as this is a black and white film noir. 

I then select the shape and the little box below the image (transform) to be able to change its size and shape

I then selected distort so I could change the shape of the flash

I then changed it to an oval like shape. 

I then selected the thingy next to the camera and music icon and selected directional

This allows you to blur the shape. 

I blurred the shape but Im still not satisfied with how it looks.
