There are many aspects of the Hero's Journey that make it up and we went through many of them today in class. Though a full description of all of the stages of a hero's journey are seen on this wikipedia page. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Monomyth#
We were told to pick three stories or films that we knew and explain how they followed some of the aspects of this hero's journey. These were the ones I picked:
Harry potter
- The call to adventure in this film is when Harry gets his Hogwarts letter and when Hagrid tells him he is a wizard.
- The mentor characters in this film are
- Dumbledore: He provides wisdom throughout the films, he often gives harry hints and information he needs to accomplish the tasks.
- Lupin: He helps harry defend himself against dementors and gives him helpful information along his journey at different times.
- Mcgonagall: She is a constant mentor in Harry potter providing him with information and acting as an authority figure.
- Sirius Black: He provides Harry with wisdom and reassurance in trying circumstances.
- there are many but these are some
- I think for harry potter the goddess character or characters are Ron and hermione, the people who, for most of the series, he cares most for.
- Harry’s reward is the fact that he defeats Voldemort and he is out of his life. Voldemort is a constant fear for Harry and the fact he is free from him.
Alice in wonderland
- The call to adventure is when Alice falls down the Rabbit hole and enters wonderland, and is in the room with the doors and she chooses to try to get through a door.
- The mentor is the Mad hatter and the rabbit as they provide her with wisdom and information about wonderland and what she must do.
- The goddess Character in alice in wonderland is the thought of going back home and leaving wonderland, Alice is in constant fear and apprehension about where she is and wants to get home back to safety.
- The boon or reward in Alice in wonderland is the fact that she realises that Wonderland is not real and is allowed to go home.
Charlie and the Chocolate factory
- The call to adventure is when Charlie gets the golden ticket and is allowed to come to the chocolate factory and begin his adventure.
- The mentor character is Charlie’s grandfather who encourages him to go find the golden ticket and go on the journey and Willy Wonka providing wisdom for him and information, inviting him inside and allowing for the adventure to begin.
- The Goddess character or metaphor is char lies family, as he has an intense love for them
- The boon is the fact that charlie gets to keep the chocolate factory and bring his family to live in it, as well as being the next in line to run it.
